It may not be as common as other berries, and you may not have heard of it before. What is elderberry, and what does elderberry taste like? Here is a simple elderberry syrup recipe.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup fresh elderberries  or frozen
  • 1 cup raw honey
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ginger
  • pinch cloves
  • 3 cups water

Instructions
 

  • Boil your elderberries, cloves, cinnamon, and ginger in a saucepan. 
  • Once it boils, remove the cover and let it simmer for up to 45 minutes or until you reduce the liquid by almost half. 
  • Remove it from the heat and let it cool. 
  • Mash the elderberries using a flat utensil or spoon, then pour it through a cheesecloth or strainer into a bowl or glass jar. Discard the mushed-up elderberries afterward. 
  • Once your mixture has cooled, add your cup of honey and mix it well. You now have your homemade elderberry syrup!
